Energy
We believe that:
- dependence on foreign energy threatens our national security and economic prosperity.
- mandating a percentage of renewable energy usage and subsidizing its production at the expense of economic well-being is foolish.
We support:
- federal energy grants dedicated to developing climate-friendly technology for fossil fuel recovery, processing, and transport.
- assessing damage to the environment and emissions costs of manufacture and transport before federal grants are dedicated to renewable energy development.
- continuing U.S. emissions control regulations independent of any global treaty or accord because we have demonstrated that our energy policies are effective in reaching projected goals.
National Security
Republicans strongly believe America is a force for security and stability in the world. In conflicts such as the Second World War and the Cold War, America has used its exceptional power to secure the freedom of millions.
America’s efforts overseas are key to our prosperity and security at home. Our brave servicemen and women have made enormous sacrifices to ensure the safety of all Americans. Thanks to their efforts as well as those of our allies, we have territorially degraded the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria—a fight that remains ongoing. With the help of our closest ally in the Middle East, Israel, we are also working to counter Iran’s anti-American, malign activities.
The threats to the American way of life are many, and they have only grown over the last century. These threats will not diminish if the U.S. retreats from the world, as it did under the Obama administration. It is vital that America continue its tradition of leadership.
To that end, and to ensure the security of all Americans, Republicans understand that a strong defense is of the utmost importance.
WisGOP Platform Context
Source: Republican Party of Wisconsin Platform, Approved by the RPW Convention – 5/18/2024.
The current Wisconsin GOP platform calls for a strong national defense, respect for America's borders, public order, and constitutional limits on centralized power. It also emphasizes property rights, economic freedom, and resistance to mandates that narrow local choices.
For Pierce County, that means energy and security discussions should consider reliable and affordable power, agriculture and business needs, transportation costs, national defense, border security, and whether state or federal rules give local communities enough room to make practical decisions.
