Economy and Spending

Wisconsin’s Economy

Sound Money

We believe that:

  • the Founding Fathers distrusted central bankers controlling our currency.
  • the possible collapse of the dollar requires transparency.
  • a full audit of the Federal Reserve on a regular basis is necessary to support sound money.

Economy and Spending

We support:

  • proposals at state and federal levels supporting free markets and minimizing government interference in the marketplace.
  • policies that don’t penalize employment or make the state and country less competitive in the global marketplace.

We believe:

  • that the federal government and other state governments should look to Wisconsin under the Republican Walker administration as a model for common-sense solutions to economic problems such as low job creation, stagnant business growth, low business expansion, high tax burdens, and balanced budgets.
  • that right-to-work laws give employees the option of working in a union environment without union membership, and that spending union dues on political funding without member permission is unethical.

Federal Debt, Deficit and Spending

  • our nation’s spending is out of control, imposing an immoral obligation on our children and grandchildren to face the economic consequences of paying down the debt and reducing the deficit.
  • federal spending should be transparent, with programs carefully and regularly audited. Identified waste within government agencies should be eliminated.

We support:

  • the Congressional development of a roadmap to fiscal responsibility, which includes balancing the budget and significantly reducing both debt and deficit.
  • reducing redundancy in federal programs, re-evaluating foreign aid, and strengthening oversight of subsidy and grant appropriations.

WisGOP Platform Context

Source: Republican Party of Wisconsin Platform, Approved by the RPW Convention – 5/18/2024.

The current Wisconsin GOP platform supports economic freedom, property rights, clear and consistent rules, less centralized control, and an economy where people can work, start businesses, and operate without excessive bureaucracy, cronyism, or needless costs.

It also warns against irresponsible borrowing and debt that shifts today's costs to future generations. In Pierce County, this connects directly to family budgets, farms, small businesses, local employers, school finance, county services, and the long-term cost of government decisions.
